entertainment from each of the 36 nations from Expo at the Brisbane
Nepal Peace Pagoda Forecourt Theatre, opening of the World Expo '88

BRING THE AUSTRALIA LETTERS, 'PARADIGM', AND THE WORLD EXPO '88
WIREFRAME GLOBE BACK TO SOUTH BANK!
RE-NAME THE FORMER
VISITORS INFORMATION CENTRE TO THE 'WORLD EXPO 88 FRIENDSHIP CENTRE'
WITH THE POPULAR SUNSAILS LOGO!

The
Foundation Expo '88 proposal for the South Bank Flag Forecourt is
simple - re-unite the popular Ken Done-design Australia Pavilion
letters at the Flag Forecourt left; launch the post-Expo re-dedication
of important thematic work, the colossal 38-metre high 'Paradigm', at
Flag Forecourt right; and centre these two art works with the popular
wire-frame globe from the Expo, in the centre of the forecourt,
surrounded by 36-jet stream fountains, representing the 36 nations at
Expo. Furthermore, we re-name the former South Bank Visitors Centre,
which sits at the end of this axis, to the World Expo '88 Friendship
Centre, featuring the popular sunsails logo of the Expo. This will give
a strong thematic, historic, and visual context to this major entry
point to the Parklands, the City of Brisbane's chief protocol and
ceremony venue, and restore prinicipal World Expo '88 heritage for the City of
Brisbane, linking the past with the present, and future.
HOW
TO HELP
* RESTORE THE
'AUSTRALIA' PAVILION LETTERS TO SOUTH BANK!* Help us restore the famous Ken
Done AUS-TRA-LIA
letters of the Australia Pavilion Entrance at Expo -
synonymous with
the spirit of celebration of Australia at Expo - to
South Bank - for good! Note:
There were two sets made for the Australia Pavilion at Expo - one set
at the Pavilion Entrance at approximately 2.0 metres height each -
stacked in a group of 3x3 letters, as in adjacent photograph;
and one set
at the Pavilion Exit at approximately 6.0 metres height each. We are
looking for the Entrance Set from the Pavilion - where each alphabet
letter is approximately 2.0 metres height. (To Be Positioned in their
World Expo '88 3x3 letter stacked formation at the South Bank Flag
Forecourt 'World Expo '88 Flag Forecourt' left-flank as per digital
rendition above). Write to Ken
Done at info@done.com.au to let the artist know of your interest in
this important part of recovering World Expo '88 tangible heritage -
and help us track down the letters! Write to Celebration Director John
McGregor 20th@celebrate88.com with an offer of donating a letter -
or donating the entire set - as well as clues on present ownership and
location of the letters!* RE-COMMISSION THE
EXPO THEMATIC ART WORK 'PARADIGM'!
Help
us work with Brisbane City Council to have the
Expo-commissioned Jon
Barlow Hudson work 'Paradigm' - symbolizing the new era
of instantaenous electronic universal telecommunications -
re-dedicated at the
World Expo '88 Flag Forecourt right-flank. View
Work Notes by the Artist Here.
Write to the Lord Mayor at LORDMAYOR@brisbane.qld.gov.au to let the
Lord Mayor know it is now time to re-dedicate this important thematic
work of World Expo '88 - at South Bank - and in time for the 20th
Anniversary Opening Ceremony Re-Enactment on Wednesday 30 April 2008!
* RE-COMMISSION THE WORLD EXPO '88 CULTURAL CENTRE
OVERPASS WIREFRAME GLOBE AT THE FLAG FORECOURT!

Also
write to the Lord Mayor to have the World Expo '88 Cultural Centre
overpass wireframe globe re-sited at the World Expo '88 Flag Forecourt
Fountain Centre - reminding us that Brisbane was Capital of the World
for 1988! - and that the good work of the Expo continues today! We also
re-juvenate the Flag Forecourt Fountain itself, with 36 jet stream
fountains at the wire-frame globe's periphery, reminding us of the 36
nations represented at Expo, AND,
* RE-NAME THE ORIGINAL SOUTH BANK VISITORS CENTRE
TO THE 'WORLD EXPO '88 FRIENDSHIP CENTRE'!

Help
us Re-Name the prominent former South Bank Visitor Centre - at the
centre background of the Forecourt - to the World Expo '88 Friendship
Centre - with the famous Expo sunsails logo becoming part of the Centre
billboard - forever enshrining Expo's prominent role in today's
Brisbane! Write to CEO of South Bank Malcolm Snow
Malcolm.Snow@south-bank.net.au to inform South Bank of your popular
support for this initiative - also in time for the 20th Anniversary
Opening Ceremony Re-Enactment on Wednesday 30 April 2008
* STRENGTHEN OUR WORLD EXPO '88 HERITAGE!
*
ASK COUNCIL TO PURCHASE THE SKY NEEDLE PARKLAND SITE FOR A PARKLAND FOR
THE CITY OF BRISBANE!
Do
further to create a greater legacy for our other prominent Expo '88
heritage items! Ask Council to purchase the Night Companion parkland
for the City of Brisbane - converting it into a Brisbane City Council
park, with landscaping, and a Sky Needle/1980s themed Cafe/Beer
Garden/Disco Museum, to
be called 'Expo Oz Cafe Garden & Disco', at the tower's base,
and
open every day 10:00am to till 5:00am each day of the Celebration, and
beyond.
* OPEN THE
JAPANESE GARDEN UNTIL 8.00PM WED-SUN FOR A MYSTICAL LOTUS FLOWER CAFE!
Also
work towards greater engagement with the Japanese Pond &
Garden,
from the Japan Pavilion, now located at the Mount Coot-tha Botanic
Garden. Open the Garden till 8.00p.m. every night Wed-Sun, with
mystical lotus flower candles alight in the Pond. A selection of
traditional Japanese Green Teas and sweets served by kimono-clad
waitresses, and traditional Japanese music.
* EXTEND THE MT COOTH-THA BUS ROUTE TO INCLUDE
SOUTH BANK!
And,
lobby Council to have a World Expo '88 Heritage Network, of these three
venues, the Pagoda at South Bank, the Sky Needle at South Brisbane, and
the Japanese Pond & Garden at Mt Coot-tha Botanic Garden, by
extending the Mt Coot-tha 471 Bus Service through to the Cultural
Centre Busway, then down South Brisbane past the Sky Needle, then back
across the William Jolly Bridge to continue on its route to Mt Coot-tha
- a simple way to connect all these venues together by simple
modification of the present route - also linking South Bank and South
Brisbane with the Milton Coffee Shops and the Mt Coot-tha Tourist
Route. Bus 471 to be re-named 'South Bank & Mt Coot-tha' Bus
Route.
