Welcome to Friends of the Pagoda. We hope to bring news, updates and more to this new page in the Pagoda's history.

Friends of the Pagoda, closely following A.V.E. guidelines works for three principal goals:

. Incorporated Association Status - as a charitable incorporated association within the State of Queensland, with South Bank Corporation as Sponsor and Incorporating Body
. Exploration of the Pagoda's rich Hindu, Buddhist, Nepalese and World Expo '88 heritage through in person activities and displays at the Pagoda itself and at the Foundation Expo '88 website and the Friends of the Pagoda pages therein
. Creation of a Association Volunteer Attendant-staffed World Expo '88 Museum at the Pagoda's Second Level - presently introduced by the First Level World Expo '88 Commemorative Memorabilia Display

*** Guided Tours of the Pagoda - by Special Request ***
. Join with Secretary and Foundation Expo '88 Executive Director John McGregor in exploring the Pagoda's Hindu, Buddhist, Nepalese and World Expo '88 origins. A free 20-minute Interpretive Art Guided Tour led by Association Volunteers, contact the Secretary and Guide John McGregor to book your tour. A popular part of your visit to the Pagoda.

*** GUIDED TOURS OF THE NEPAL PEACE PAGODA FOR THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF MUSEUMS 'MUSEUMS ALIGHT 2010' ***
In conjunction with Museums and Gallery Services Queensland we will be hosting Guided Tours at the Pagoda for ICOM's "Museums Alight 2010", at 11am and 2pm, Saturday and Sunday 15-25 May. These free Guided Tours shall give you an understanding of the rich artistic heritage of the Pagoda and of it's role during World Expo '88. An official ICOM activity, in conjunction with South Bank Corporation.

*** THE BRISBANE FESTIVAL 2009 AT THE NEPAL PEACE PAGODA ***
In conjunction with the Nepal Australia Friendship Association (Qld) we will be hosting activities at the Pagoda for RiverSunday, on 13 September 2009. Help join in the festivties at the Pagoda by taking part in a free Guided Tour of the Pagoda, at 11am and 2pm. These free Guided Tours shall give you an understanding of the rich artistic heritage of the Pagoda and of it's role during World Expo '88. An official Brisbane Festival activity, in conjunction with South Bank Corporation.

*** QUEENSLAND HERITAGE WEEK AND INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF MUSEUMS WEEK 2008 AT THE WORLD EXPO '88 MUSEUM, NEPAL PEACE PAGODA FIRST LEVEL
Join with Foundation Expo '88 Executive Director and Association Secretary John McGregor in Guided Tours of the Nepal Peace Pagoda's rich heritage, every day of the 20th Anniversary of World Expo '88 Celebrations from Wednesday 30 April 2008, to Sunday 26 May 2008. Participation is free! A 20-minute interpretive art tour of the Pagoda's principal icons and art work - don't miss out! Individual/Groups Welcome! [POSTPONED!] *** PRESENTED BY THE ROYAL NEPALESE EMBASSY, JAPAN AIRLINES, RYDGES HOTEL SOUTH BANK AND THE FRIENDS OF THE PAGODA ASSOCIATION - THE BRISBANE NEPAL PEACE PAGODA FORECOURT THEATRE WORLD LAUNCH SEPTEMBER 15 AND 16 2007. Traditional Sacred Nepalese, Balinese and Japanese Court Music for the launch of the Brisbane Nepal Pagoda Forecourt Theatre - an adjunct to Brisbane's 2007 Cathedrals' Week. The performing arts comes to the Pagoda once again - for 2007 Cathedrals' Week. Three 90-minute programs - featuring sacred court music from Nepal, Bali, and Japan, artists in traditional court attire, and traditional court instruments - a unique performing arts and cultural experience. Seating for 320 only, with Ticketing by QTIX - Available September 7. Launch pad for the 20th Anniversary of World Expo '88 celebrations, the Week positions the Brisbane Nepal Peace Pagoda Forecourt Theatre as Australia's leading venue and festival for Australia and Asia in the performing arts.

*** World Expo '88 Commemorative Display at the Nepal Peace Pagoda First Level. With thanks to South Bank Corporation, Brisbane City Council, and Image Plus Digital Imaging Indooroopilly, this popular exhibit continues. View the World Expo '88 Memorabilia Cabinet, and the stretched canvas frame Foundation Expo '88 Brisbane City Council World Expo '88 Panorama Photograph Selection - a double-sided production allowing for viewing during the day or evening. An exhibition specially curated for the Brisbane Nepal Peace Pagoda.

*** The World Expo '88 Network Guide Pamphlet Edition 2.0 May 2007. Recently launched for Queensland Heritage and International Museums Week at the Pagoda in May 2007, receive your personal copy of the Guide at the Guide's dedicated Pamphlet Holder. PROJECTS IN THE PIPELINE

*** Donations to the Statue of the Lokewessaar Goddess at the Lokewessaar Goddess Enclosure, First Level. An exciting new PR project for the Association - the Lokewessaar Goddess receives donations from visitors from all over the world. How much of each currency is donated? What is its value in Australian Dollars? What is the per month donations? In collaboration with South Bank Corporation, the Association assumes collection and tally roles - with results per month published to the Association http://www.celebrate88.com/friendsofthepagoda/lokewessaar/ in a fun and informative pie-graph graphic. 50% of convertible to Australian dollar donations contributions dedicated to the Pagoda World Expo '88 Museum at the Second Level of the Pagoda - and 50% and remainder of donations supporting charities in Nepal.

*** The Nepal Peace Pagoda Teahouse Experience - at the Pagoda's Front Forecourt and Side Forecourts. We bring safari-style market canvas umbrellas, tables and chairs, and the best of Nepalese cuisine to the Pagoda's Front Forecourt and Side Forecourts, ordering and serving from the Pagoda's Front Forecourt Sano Side Pavilions. Open 10am to 5pm 7 days a week, 51 weeks of the year, the Nepal Tea House Experience will be your perfect complement to your visit to the Pagoda and the 'Pagoda on Sundays Guided Tours Program', the World Expo '88 Museum at the Pagoda's Second Level and South Bank Parklands.
