| The colourful and intricate wood
work of a Thailand temple greeted guests to this
Pavilion - in bright rich colours of red and gold. At the entrance one was met by a revolving circle of classical figures of the traditional Thai theatre - 'Khon' - or masked drama. This theme was continued through the Pavilion with a series of mannequins and wall painting dioramas exploring the Thai concept of leisure - also known as 'sanuk' - where one could see depictions of Thai day-to-day life, music, sports, and other past-times such as Thai boxing, kite-fighting, fortune telling and dance, as well as the New Year Water Festival - 'Songkran'. An eight minute audio-visual on 'sanuk' and an area on Thai handicrafts and exports also featured. Various performing and visual arts took centre stage for the Thai National Day at Expo 88 - including a 30-strong professional dance group from Thailand, and displays on Thai craftwork.   |
