A typical Brisbane blue skies view of the Expo site and City from the Vulture Street Gate. The Expo sun-sails were one of the Expos most iconic structures - and formed the largest canopied area in the world. The Nepal Peace Pagoda, now a permanent part of the re-developed South Bank Parklands site, is at image foreground left. The Australia Pavilion at the Universal Exposition Seville 1992 featured an innovative curved fabric facade, featuring the many splendid colours of the Australian landscape. The Expo at sundown - where the gentle play of fading sunlight and clouds envelopes the Expo site. The Expo River Stage is at centre, the Expo symbol tower, Night Companion at background, and the river-art installations - the cubes, pyramids, and spheres, of the cubisitic flotilla are at the Expo river foreshore. The dramatic crane-like structure and suspended jewel earth of the Australia Pavilion at the Universal Exposition of Osaka 1970 was one of the most outstanding and striking Pavilions at Expo 70, and was designed by Australian architect Mr James Maccormick MBE, also Joint Chief Architect of Brisbane?s World Expo 88. The Pavilion, retained at the conclusion of the Expo, can be visited at Yokkaichi-City Japan. A state-of-the-art fireworks, music and laser show finished each Expo evening at the River Stage from 10.00p.m. The Australia Pavilion at the Universal and International Exhibition of Montreal, 1967. The Melbourne Exhibition Building, Australia?s UNESCO World Heritage Listed World Expositions building served the Melbourne International Exhibition 1880, the Centennial of European Settlement Melbourne International Exhibition of 1888, and is a popular Melbourne venue for special events and trade fairs. The River Stage is set for the Closing Ceremony - a truly spectacular event, with perfect weather, and over 20000 Expo staff waiting for the final celebration of their six months work. Possibly the most photographed icon from World Expo 88 - the iconic Australia letters by Australian designer Ken Done - that flanked the Australia Pavilion Entrance and Exit. Queensland, New South Wales, and the base of the Expo tower Night Companion are nearby. The stunning Nepal Peace Pagoda from Expo is now resplendent at the transformed Expo site - South Bank Parklands. The popular Australian Platypus at the Australia Pavilion, Aichi World Expo 2005 Japan exemplified harmony with the land. The Garden Palace was the signature structure of Australias first international Exhibition in Sydney in 1879. The 7000 V.I.P.s invited for the official Opening Ceremony at the Expo River Stage. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II presides and opens the Fair; Prime Minister John Howard MP, then Federal Leader of the Opposition, sits at front right of image. South Bank Parklands - the transformed World Expo 88 site is one of the most successful post-expo developments in the world. The Expo South Monorail Station, with some of the popular Human Factor plaster cast images, capturing the whimsy of day-to-day life - from clowns and acrobats, to tourists and skateboard-riders.
